Marc Is Now Of Counsel to Stein IP!

I am excited and pleased to announce that I have become Of Counsel to Stein IP! You can see me at: https://steinip.com/professionals/marcwhipple/

I will be providing the same experience & quality legal services my clients have come to expect, but now with a fantastic firm filled with talented lawyers in support!

A lot of my clients follow me online and this may be their first notice of this transition. I will be sending out a letter explaining the impact of this on their matters, but the summary is: You will not experience any changes in services or billing.

For current clients, the only impact is that I now have access to even more expertise and resources to support you. Prospective clients, the future is looking brighter than ever!

I’d like to thank Michael Stein, Victoria Kirsinas and all at Stein IP for a warm welcome. I look forward to working with you!

An Inexpensive Secure Device – the FreePi (Raspberry Pi FreedomBox)

Hello friends!

Sorry it’s been quiet on the ol’ blog, but if you follow me on Twitter, you’ll get plenty of commentary on the legal news of the day. (I’m @legalinspire on Twitter. See right column.)

Today, though, we’re going to take a little detour, though our destination is very relevant to intellectual property law, information security, and a few other topics near and dear to my heart. Specifically, we’re going to look at one of the purest Open Source devices available for non-I’ll-just-build-my-OWN-damn-OS programmer types: the FreedomBox. Even more specifically, I’m going to show you how to build the cheapest sort of FreedomBox you can build from scratch. (First there’s going to be some background, so if you just want to skip to the building part, click here. Warning: this is very long and there are a lot of pictures.)

Life Changes Again: My Separation from Crawford Intellectual Property Law

A brief post to announce that I am no longer of counsel to Crawford Intellectual Property Law. If you were a client of the firm and I worked on your matters, please be advised that your file is with CIPL and your attorney/client relationship with them is in full force and effect. I am sure you will continue to get helpful and competent advice from Brie and Sam if you remain with the firm.

If you are a client of CIPL, please make a note not to copy me on any legal communications that you have with CIPL or otherwise communicate with me regarding them. While of course I would never voluntarily disclose them, since I am no longer associated with the firm it is possible that they would not be subject to the attorney/client privilege.

I enjoyed my time as counsel to the firm and extend my best wishes for future success to all.

TwitchCon 2018!

A very sharp young lawyer (well, she’s waiting for her bar results but I have confidence) who goes by LadyLawTM on the Internet invited me to speak on a panel she wanted to do on lootboxes, games, and gambling at TwitchCon this year. I like talking, I like cons, and I Have Opinions, so of course I said yes. It was this past weekend and I thought I’d just share a few of the highlights with you. 🙂

Note: There is a list of all the streamers I met (and whose gamertags I got) at the bottom of this entry. Please check them out! If I missed you, so sorry, please comment and I’ll add you.

First, I am happy to report that our panel was a smashing success. The description is here, and here’s a VOD of our panel!

Rate Changes – Last Call for Lower Fees!

(In some jurisdictions this post may be considered ATTORNEY ADVERTISING.)

I am raising my hourly and standard fixed fees as of October 1, 2018. I’ll still be charging less than most lawyers with my qualifications and experience, but I will be increasing what I charge to reflect the fact that the world’s not getting any cheaper.

But here’s your chance to get my services at my current lower rates!

If you are a current client of mine, I will continue to charge you my current rates for the next six months (until April 1, 2019.)

If you become a client of mine before October 1, I will charge you my current rates for the next six months (likewise.)

If you add yourself to my mailing list, I will charge you my current rates for your first matter if you become a client of mine within the next twelve months (by September 30, 2019.) Don’t worry, I don’t send out a lot of emails – mostly just notices when I post on my blog or something interesting happens in the world of intellectual property law. I don’t share my mailing list with anyone, ever.

If you’d like to become a client, here’s a page with more information: Retaining Me As Your Attorney

If you’d like to add yourself to my mailing list, just send an email to marc@legalinspiration.com with the subject “Mailing List.” Clicking on that link will automatically generate an email for you!

As always, thanks for reading!
